Yaki Onigiri - Grilled Rice Balls

Ingredients

  • 200 g sushi rice
  • 1,5 tbsp. rice vinegar
  • 1/2 tbsp. sugar
  • Pinch of salt

  • 0,5 nori sheet
  • 1 spring onion
  • 1/2 Avocado
  • 1 tbsp. tahini paste
  • 1/2 tsp. sushi rice seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp. groundnut oil
  • Soy sauce to taste

Preparation  

  1. Prepare the sushi rice
  2. Make a marinade from the rice vinegar, sugar and salt, and use it to carefully marinate the cooked rice.
  3. Cut the nori sheets into strips.
  4. To make the sesame and avocado filling, cut the green parts of the spring onion into thin rings, cut the avocado into cubes and mix both with the tahini paste and seasoning.
  5. For the onigiri: With wet hands, take a bit of rice and form a hollow in the middle.
  6. Put in the filling and close the hollow with more rice. Form into a triangle, wrap a nori strip around one edge and sprinkle both sides with sesame seeds.
  7. For the yaki onigiri (sautéd): Onigiri without preparing nori sheets. Heat a little groundnut oil in a frying pan and sauté the ongiri until it turns golden-brown.
  8. And now your delicious yaki onigiri will be ready to enjoy with soy sauce!
